AAT Level 3 Diploma in Accounting (QCF)
The AAT Level 3 Diploma online builds on basic financial knowledge by teaching complex accounting tasks such as preparing final accounts for partnerships and sole traders, and maintaining cost accounting paperwork. As with the online AAT Level 2 Certificate, the AAT Level 3 training course is taught via work-based simulations.
Please note classroom delivery is done in the centre; Elite Training Assessing & Development CIC. The study is done at a steady pace with specific study times, face to face with expert and experienced tutors. You will be assigned a personal tutor who will support you throughout the course.
Outline of the course
The online AAT Level 3 diploma course is made up of 7 units, all of which are equal value:
Accounts preparation 1: Fine-tune your understanding of accounting systems and learn how to prepare final accounts for sole traders
Accounts preparation 2: Get to grips with the legal side of partnership accounts and further preparation involved in such accounts
Cash management: Managing cash balances and deficits within a company, how to give advice on raising finance and the investment of surplus cash
Costs and revenues: The ins and outs of cost accounting
Indirect tax: Understand VAT: regulations, tax returns and other necessary processes
Spreadsheet software: How software is used for accounting, how to create relevant graphs and charts from input data AND, if you are an AAT level 2 apprenticeship student you will have to take:
Professional ethics in accounting and finance: Learn the ethical duties, as well as the importance of good practice for your firm and the profession.
Who it is for:
AAT Level 3 training course is aimed at learners:
- Who already have a grip of the basic principles of accounting
- With A levels
- Who have completed AAT Level 2 training course (although this is not a necessary requirement)
- Who are at an intermediate level and looking to develop their existing accounting skills
On average, the online Level 3 AAT course takes:
- 300-400 hours of study to complete
- 12 months to complete when on a distance learning course
- 6-9 months to complete when on a full-time, classroom course
Please note all assessments will be provided via an online test; this might include projects, reports or workplace evidence. Many students choose to study Level 3 AAT online course, on cost-effective distance learning schemes that allow you to work during the day and study in the evening. For example, it is common to assess students at Level 3 with:
- 6 Computer Based Assessments
- 1 Computer Based Project
- 5 computer-based exams sat at an external centre: each exam is 3 hours long
- 2 computer-based projects sat at an external centre: each exam is 3 hours long

Completing Level 3 will set you up perfectly to start tackling the AAT Level 4 Diploma, the final stage of the AAT qualification.
