Candidates must have successfully achieved the Level 3 Award in Education & Training (Formerly PTLLS) prior to continuing with study on the Level 4 Certificate programme or complete the Level 3 Award in Education & Training (Formerly PTLLS) as a mandatory unit as part of the Level 4 Certificate. New entrants to Teacher Education programmes must possess a Level 3, or equivalent, qualification as a minimum in their own subject area.

It is also a mandatory requirement that trainee teachers have a subject mentor to offer subject specific support and guidance. Subject mentors must be prepared to attend an initial training session. (This does not apply to Level 3 Award in Education & Training, formally PTLLS).
